Although women here have the option of free services through the national hospital system, this choice faces alarmingly high caesarean section rates. It is estimated that in national hospitals, over 50% of women are subject to unnecessary caesarean sections for the convenience of the doctor. In those same hospitals, only 51% of women have access to medical attendants during childbirth. (The Central American average is 77%). At Manos Abiertas, we offer a range of humanised and natural childbirth options, allowing women to choose the technique that suits them best. All births are attended by a trained midwife and every woman receives personalized support throughout her entire delivery. In addition, we give great importance to providing comprehensive pre and post-natal services that are vital for the health of both mother and baby.
